Buildings & Infrastructure

Hughes Hall now has a student body of over 700 students, largely international, predominantly on one year courses, and we need to ensure our students can settle in quickly in a comfortable and affordable space to call their own. Currently less than 50% of our students are able to live in College accommodation, but a combination of prudent financial management, broad alumni support and clear, ambitious plans are starting to make a real difference. Only when they feel at home can our students truly thrive, and you can read more about our plans to improve provision of high quality accommodation here.

Case study: Gresham Road

When the University gym’s Gresham Road building became available following their relocation to the West Cambridge site, we were fortunate to be in a position where, with carefully stewarded funds and support from alumni and non-alumni donors, we were able to take on the site for an ambitious project to being to jiwefjnascsolve our accommodation needs for our international student body. Since that day, 85 new en suite student rooms have been proposed, planned, approved and are on course to completion and 30 of those rooms have been named by donors. In all, more than £1million has been raised.
